Today in RI history: Bristol man convicted of lobster con

A year ago today:
Someone steals 1,000 copies of the CCRI student newspaper. The Unfiltered Lens responded by reprinting 1,000 copies. The paper featured stories about health-code violations at a school cafeteria and cockroaches.

5 years ago today:
John P. Kluth Jr., formerly of Bristol, is convicted of tricking 30 people out of money by telling them that he had a broken-down refrigerated truck with a perishable load of lobsters and that he needed a quick loan so that he could get the truck fixed and his cargo to market.

25 years ago today:
Mayor Joseph R. Paolino Jr. says the city will appeal last week's Superior Court ruling that calls for mandatory retirement of all police officers and firefighters over 60 years old.
