PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Rhode Island's median house price jumped 12 percent in February, to $189,500, compared to $170,000 in February 2012, according to statistics released Thursday by the Rhode Island Association of Realtors.
With 442 houses sold, sales activity was up 2 percent, but the supply of homes for sale fell 18 percent, the association said.
The median condominium price was up by a startling 55 percent, at $193,400, compared with $125,000 in February 2012. The number of condo sales (84) rose 29 percent, "despite a 17 percent decrease in the supply of condos for sale," the association said.
Foreclosures and short sales made up a smaller percentage of the market in February, accounting for 31 percent of all sales, down from 37 percent last year.
