A car is one of the perks for RI agency directors, but some don't take it

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Governor Chafee's plan to give cumulative 6 percent raises to the 14 state agency directors, in his cabinet, has drawn public attention to the other perks in their employment packages.

And yes, a top Department of Administration official confirmed Friday: that includes a state car.'

"Some directors have chosen not to take one at all. Some use them only during the days for business travel,'' but others "use them for the full authorized use including commuting,'' Ronald Renaud confirmed.

Only four of the seven with a state car use it to commute to and from work. Seven others have said no thanks to a state car. The following graphic lists which directors have state cars and how they use them:
