Governor Chafee has hired a new $55,808-a-year "legislative liaison/policy analyst": Kate Brock.
Brock has been an organizer -- and then executive director -- of the union-backed advocacy group -- Ocean State Action -- since June 2010. Before that, she was a field organizer for The Alliance for Climate Protection in Maine.
Her job at Ocean State Action: "Build and manage coalitions of diverse stakeholders" for legislative lobbying campaigns.
More specifically, she has had a key behind-the-scenes role in designing and organizing lobbying campaigns for same-sex marriage, a proposed hike in the income tax rate for Rhode Island's top-earners, a controversial bill to ban questions about criminal histories from public and private industry job and more generally, "reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights and health care."
