PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Rhode Island lawmakers are taking a look at a plan to restart the state's historic tax credits, a proposal that's taken on greater significance now that they could be used to renovate the state's tallest building, the downtown office tower known as the Superman building.

The Senate Finance Committee is set to examine the legislation Tuesday.

The owners of the Superman building have said they may request the credits to assist in converting the 1928 building's office space into apartments.

The committee is also expected to review other bills designed to spur the state's economy, including ones that would give arts a sales tax exemption, refashion the state's economic development agency and help low-income parents pay for child care while they participate in workforce training programs.
