CUMBERLAND, R.I. -- Authorities have identified the husband and wife killed Sunday as Roland and Maria Bouvier, 73 and 70 respectively, of 6 Nate Whipple Highway, Unit 301.
The Bouviers -- who had been married for 49 years, according to an obituary -- had "severe health issues" and had indicated "they could not go on any further," Police Chief John R. Desmarais said.
The couple left a handwritten note that said: "No more pills, no more pain."
Investigators believe Mr. Bouvier wrote the note.
The Bouviers recently transferred the family condo title to their eldest son, Desmarais said. Family members told police they noticed nothing out of the ordinary.
Mr. Bouvier, relatives told investigators, had had back surgery and suffered "extreme pain." Mrs. Bouvier, relatives said, suffered from early stages of Alzheimer's.
"They were a loving couple," Desmarais said.
