SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Margarita Dempsey, a French and Spanish teacher at Smithfield High School, has been named the 2013 Regional Language Teacher of the Year by the Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.
The Teacher of the Year is chosen from submissions of state teachers of the year throughout the Northeast. Dempsey graduated with her bachelor's degree in French with
honors from Skidmore College. Her master degree is from Assumption College, and Dempsey has taken courses at Universite de Paris, Universidad de Salamanca, and Rhode Island College.
She has also taught courses at local colleges and directed a number of theatrical productions throughout her career.
