WARWICK, R.I. -- Auctioneer SJ Corio Co., of Warwick, will host media representatives during previews for the upcoming auction of goods left behind in the wake of the 38 Studios bankruptcy.
The implosion in the spring of the company founded by ex-ballplayer Curt Schilling caused a political controversy in Rhode Island. The videogame company's closure left state taxpayers liable for roughly $100 million in bond payments. The state lent Schilling $75 million to move his company from Massachusetts to Rhode Island.
The auction will be held on successive Tuesdays, Oct. 16 and Oct. 23, with the first in Timonium, Md., inside a one-time 38 Studios subsidiary, and then at its Empire Street headquarters. Media will tour the sites the day prior to each auction date.
