PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Senate Commerce Committee is scheduled to consider Governor Chafee's fifth nominee to the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation's board of directors Thursday and five bills that could alter the way the state handles its efforts to stimulate the economy.
The bills consider changing the name of the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation to the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation; requiring a written, long-term economic development vision and policy for the state; and urging an upgrade and improvements to the EDC's website.
Kelly is among five people named by Chafee to fill empty seats on the current EDC board. The commerce committee postponed his hearing because he was out of town on business when it approved the other four nominations.
The Senate bills to be debated today, in Room 212 at the State House, are No. 686, 712, 713, 714 and 718.
