Police seized 50 marijuana plants, harvested marijuana worth about $20,000 and $17,000 in cash from the home of a Hopkinton man.

HOPKINTON, R.I. -- Police arrested a 32-year-old man on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver after finding 50 marijuana plants - some as high as four feet tall - in his home at 7 West St., along with four pounds of harvested marijuana with a street value of $20,000.
The arrest of Rafael A. Cortez came Wednesday after a traffic stop and and a search of his home that came at the end of a week-long investigation by Westerly and Hopkinton police.
Cortez, who does not have a license to grow marijuana, was arraigned and released Thursday on personal recognizance. The plants, his car and $17,000 in cash were all seized.
