PORTSMOUTH, R.I. -- About 130 people showed up over two sessions on Saturday to comment on a plan to enact tolls on the Sakonnet River Bridge.
The Rhode Island Bridge and Turnpike Authority organized the open houses at the Baypoint Inn and Conference Center to get more input from the public before deciding on a pricing structure for the tolls. The authority's board of directors is set to vote on one of three options at its meeting April 17.
David Darlington, chairman of the board, said there's still time to make changes to the pricing options -- which include discounted prices for in-state drivers versus those from out of state.
"Having this type of dialogue helps," he said.
