PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A couple who grew up in Rhode Island died in an Oklahoma plane crash last week, The Colorado Springs Gazette reports.

The wreckage was found Wednesday near Guymon, Okla., after relatives notified authorities the couple was missing.

Neil Asting, 68, and Karen Berousek, 68, lived in Colorado and had been visiting relatives in Oklahoma for Easter.

Asting and Berousek went to South Kingstown High School. According to the newspaper, they were high school sweethearts, but then went their separate ways.

But they got back together at a high school reunion and had been married for about two years, said Michael Coady, Asting's brother-in-law.

Neil Asting, a retired chemistry professor at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, received his doctorate at the University of Rhode Island.
