CRANSTON, R. I. -- A new agreement with retired police and firefighters will save the city $6.5 million in pension costs next year, Mayor Allan W. Fung said Monday.
Fung has been taking to retirees since September. The pension agreement allowed him to draft a budget for next year that calls for no tax hikes, he said.
The deal, which suspends annual cost-of-living increases, resolves a decades-long problem, Fung said.
