WOONSOCKET, R.I. (AP) -- Woonsocket Police say a man was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after crews responding to an emergency call heard a shot.
Police say in a news release that police and firefighters were called to a home around 9:25 a.m. Thursday for a report of a suicidal person. Police say they helped two people in the home evacuate, then heard what appeared to be a gunshot.
Officers then found a man inside dead. His name was not released.
Police and Fire Chief Gary Lataille say no firefighters or officers were shot at.
Two people were transported to Rhode Hospital; however, there is no report as to who those people were, how they were injured, or what condition they are in.
A SWAT unit is on the scene, as is the Woonsocket police chief. One ambulance was seen leaving the scene, near the area of Memorial Drive.
The state medical examiner is at the scene.
