JOHNSTON, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island leaders are planning to visit recently completed housing units for veterans.

Gov. Lincoln Chafee, U.S. Sens. Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, Congressman Jim Langevin, Treasurer Gina Raimondo and Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Roberts plan to attend the grand opening of the project Monday morning.

The units are the work of Rhode Island Housing and community organizations including Operation Stand Down Rhode Island, a group that advocates for homeless veterans and veteran housing programs.

A recent survey found that the number of homeless people in Rhode Island has increased by 10 percent in the past year. The largest increases were seen in homeless children and veterans.
