PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The Providence water utility says people driving on Rt. 6 and Rt. 295 should not to panic when they see fire on a watershed property located on the west side of the Scituate Reservoir.
The Providence Water Supply Board says it plans to conduct a controlled grassland burn on a watershed property known as Joslin Farm. It is intended to stabilize soils and enhance water quality protection by promoting native plants and animals.
The planned burn is tentatively scheduled for Monday and will cover a 60-acre area. An experience crew and qualified burn boss will conduct the operation that is expected to be completed in one day.
Providence utility officials say the planned burn will go ahead only in favorable ground and weather conditions.
