PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- One of the arguments used by supporters of gun control is that restricting access to guns could prevent some of the thousands of gun-related suicides that occur each year.
On a segment of WPRI-TV's "Newsmakers" program taped on April 12, state Rep. Michael Chippendale, R-Foster, disputed that argument.
"If an individual is under enough emotional or psychological distress where they're going to commit suicide, the availability of a gun is not a factor," Chippendale said.
