Over the past 2-1/2 years, PolitiFact Rhode Island has activated its Truth-O-Meter eight times in the debate over whether same-sex marriage should be legalized.
We've given two Pants On Fires, including one for the assertion that Rhode Islanders don't want same-sex marriage (Update: the latest Brown University poll shows 60 percent support it).
Our best rating on the issue was Mostly True given to two statements, including one for the assertion that 80 percent of people, when polled, want the question to go the ballot. (Update: A more recent poll by a pro-traditional marriage group found that 74 percent prefer that, but 71 percent of the people polled were age 50 or older.)
