PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A Providence man shot a woman twice in the apartment they shared before turning the gun and fatally shooting himself in the head, the Providence police said.
The Providence police responded to 47 Dora St. at 11:20 Wednesday night for a report of a disturbance.
As they arrived, Deputy Police Chief Thomas F. Oates III said, they heard an argument coming from the second floor. Moments later, gunshots were heard, and a woman came out the front door saying she had been shot and that the shooter was still in the apartment.
"He just shot me and he's upstairs with a gun," the woman told the police.
The woman, only identified as being 30 years old, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with a gunshot wound to her left arm and left shoulder. She's expected to recover.
Officers found the 20-year-old man on the living room floor with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead on scene.
An autopsy will be conducted to establish cause of death, Oates said.
