PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence Schools announces that Chief Academic Officer Paula Shannon has tendered her resignation from the district in order to pursue other professional opportunities.

"Ms. Shannon has been a valuable asset to this district for 14 years," said Superintendent Dr. Susan F. Lusi. "She is an enormously bright and talented individual, and was the driving force behind numerous district initiatives, including the establishment of core curriculum and leadership seminars, and, very recently, was one of the architects of 'Graduate Providence,' our effort to make students and families aware and prepared for the new graduation standards."

Shannon has been with PPSD since 1999, serving over those years as a teacher, a literacy coach, and then as an administrator, including the past two years as Chief Academic Officer.
