PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- About 500 people attended Saturday's One Day University at the Rhode Island Convention Center, an event featuring college professors giving nine lectures: about art and science, memory and philosophy.
Among other lectures, Sumati Eberstadt of Providence attended one about Darwin and another about thinking like a philosopher. Eberstadt, a voracious reader, could have stayed home and read up on the topics but said, "It's interesting to hear things from people who are passionate about the subjects. It's the difference between going to a concert and listening on your iPod."
The event was a partnership between One Day University and The Providence Journal.
