WOONSOCKET, R.I. - State bomb investigators responded to a report of a suspicious backpack left at a residence on Cass Avenue near Woonsocket High School around 8 p.m. Saturday night, according to State Police Lt. Mark Farnum.

The backpack contained clothes and a hat, Farnum said. The bomb squad cleared the scene by around 9:45 p.m.

"You have to take each one seriously these days," he said, adding that the bomb squad, which is operated by the state Fire Marshal's office, responded to four such calls on Friday alone.

Woonsocket High School was also evacuated twice this past week for bomb threats, including one Friday.

Woonsocket Police Chief Thomas S. Carey said he was unaware of Saturday's incident, when reached by cell phone.
