PROVIDENCE, RI -- Some 250 people braved red-paint-wielding "roller bulls" in an unusual and exceedingly goofy fund-raiser for Amos House on Sunday.
In the "Get Gored for Good" event, members of the Providence Roller Derby team donned bull's-horn helmets and charged after runners with feather paintbrushes that left "blood stains" on their shirts. Teams with names like "I run like a girl" and "Mitzvah Maniacs" jogged or walked the 2-mile downtown route and then gathered for a festival in Kennedy Plaza.
The pledges and corporate donations were expected to raise $115,000 for Amos House, which serves the homeless.
