PROVIDENCE -- Young stars Bubba Watson and Rickie Fowler and veteran Steve Stricker headline the field for the 15th annual CVS Caremark Charity Classic.
Tournament organizers for the $1.55-million event, to be held June 23 to 25 at Rhode Island Country Club, began announcing the 20-player field on Monday and reported that other participants will include LPGA stars Lexi Thompson and Juli Inkster.
The tournament is co-hosted by Rhode Island natives Billy Andrade and Brad Faxon and has raised more than $16 million for charity in its first 14 years. Peter Jacobsen, whose management company runs the event, also will take part as he has every year at Rhode Island Country Club. Other players will be announced as they commit.
It is possible, although not yet set, that 2012 champions Jay Haas and Morgan Pressel will return to defend their title. Pressel became the first LPGA player to win the event last year. This year, though, the tournament is being held one week later than usual, which means it will finish two days before U.S. Women's Open, which will be held at Seabonack Golf Club on Long Island.
Thompson and Inkster, both of whom have taken part previously, are the only two LPGA players who have committed thus far.
