Providence firefighters rescue woman from river

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Firefighters donned cold-water gear and boarded an inflatable raft Saturday morning to rescue a woman who had jumped into frigid river waters near Waterplace Park, authorities said.

Firefighters went to a location on Steeple Street to rescue the woman at around 10 a.m., said Deputy Fire Chief James Mirza. The woman was taken to the hospital for evaluation, he said.
