A year ago today: Rhode Island's public-employee unions file their long-anticipated challenges to the dramatic overhaul of the state's pension system for state workers, public school teachers and municipal employees.

5 years ago today: The Education Partnership, a nonprofit advocacy organization that produced reports and consulted with local school districts, closed its doors and filed for receivership.

25 years ago today: A rat-infested barge aground in Warwick Cove for eight years will be moved thanks to a $50,000 grant from the state Department of Environmental Management.
