PROVIDENCE, R.I. - - Take a whirl around the State House rotunda for history's sake.
There will be hors d'oeuvres, cocktails and a live band at a gala Saturday night at the State House intended to raise money to better preserve the state's charter which was signed in by the King of England in 1663.
In honor of the document's 350th birthday, the the charter on display for the first time in about a century.

On Saturday morning, the state officially opened a special first-floor room at the State House that has been created for the document.
The state is hoping to raise at least $250,000 to create a new secure, climate-controlled case for the document and Saturday's gala is a main fundraiser.
Tickets are $100 per person and can be purchased at the event which begins at 7 p.m.
