PROVIDENCE, RI -- A 16-year-old city youth was shot through the leg Friday on Violet Street, police said.

The police responded at 6:30 p.m. to a report of shots fired at Violet Street and Chalkstone Ave., and learned that someone had driven the male victim to the hospital, according to a police report.

They located the shooting victim at Roger Williams Hospital. According to the police report, the bullet struck the young man's left leg and exited.

Meanwhile, the police found a blood trail from behind 40 Violet St., through the next yard and back across Violet Street, ending at Chalkstone Ave., the report states.

The victim told the police he was shot after a fight with a man he said he did not know, near the 7-Eleven on Smith Street. The police said the victim has remained "uncooperative."
