Today in RI history: Killer says victim's son hired him

A year ago today:
Superior Court Judge Judge Netti C. Vogel sentences Robert E. Lamoureux Jr., of Warwick, to life in prison without parole for murdering Pauline Buco, 83, of Pawtucket, in her bed. Lamoureux said he was paid $10,000 to kill Buco by her younger son, John.

5 years ago today:
The state Senate confirms the appointments of R. David Cruise and Alan R. Goulart as
magistrates of the Traffic Tribunal. Mary E. McCaffrey was confirmed to the District Court bench.

25 years ago today:
Violent thunderstorms sweep across southern Rhode Island, unleashing a blizzard of lightning that causes widespread power failures, downed telephone lines, triggers burglar alarms, sparks a rash of house fires and heavily damages a West Greenwich saw mill.
