PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A Pawtucket man was ordered held without bail Friday upon his arraignment on a charge that he murdered his daughter Aleida, 10.

Jorge DePina, 32, of 48 Knowles St. entered no plea before District Court Judge William Clifton.

Pawtucket Police Capt. Kevin Crawley told Clifton that an autopsy showed the child died of blunt-force trauma inflicted several days earlier.

Assistant Public Defender Paul Tondreau contended there was no evidence that DePina had committed murder or even assaulted Aleida. He said the only possible case that could be made would be negligence.

Clifton was unswayed, and ordered DePina held.

Aleida was pronounced dead Wednesday in Miriam Hospital.
