PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A fire in a triple-decker at 41 Bancroft St. Friday night displaced 10 people, including 3 children.
Fire crews were called to the three-story wood-frame building around 10:30 p.m. after a blaze started on the third-floor, which was not occupied, according to Assistant Chief Joseph R. Desmarais. The fire caused moderate damage, leaving the building uninhabitable.
Fire officials notified the American Red Cross to assist the displaced families, Desmarais said. No one was injured, but neighbors reported that transients had been seen coming in and out of the third-floor unit where the fire started, he said.
The fire is not related to other recent blazes on Bancroft Street, he said.
