Nearly 17 acres of farmland in Green Hill will be permanently preserved under a land deal organized by the South Kingstown Land Trust. The town, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and The Nature Conservancy will purchase the development rights for $600,000, meaning the land would forever be used for agricultural purposes.
25 years ago today:
The Seekonk police station on Route 44 is struck by lightning, knocking out computers, telephones and the radio communication system. Cellblock monitors also were damaged. Four prisoners were evacuated and held in cars outside the station.
