SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. -- One way to beat the heat: Go ice skating. The Bradford R. Boss Ice Arena at the University of Rhode Island is offering free admission on Thursday and Saturday.
"Temperatures inside Boss Ice Arena remain on average a relatively cool 60 degrees," said Leah Becki, general manager of Boss Arena and the Ryan Center. "We hope this is a great opportunity for patrons to beat the heat while listening to music and socializing with friends and family."
The free skate is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Ice Skates are available for rent at $5. Skaters are advised to arrive early on Saturday because parking will be limited during the South County Hot Air Balloon Festival.
