PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Sandy Point Beach in Portsmouth and Fort Adams State Park in Newport have joined Scarborough State Beach in Narragansett as being closed to swimming because of high bacteria counts, the state Department of Health announced Friday.

Beaches that have reopened to swimming are: Grinnell's Beach, Fogland Beach and Peabody's Beach in Middletown, as well as Goddard Park in Warwick.

During beach season, the Department of Health's beach monitoring program routinely tests water quality at all state beaches. For up-to-date information about closed beaches, call (401) 222-2751 or visit health.ri.gov/news/beaches/ to see notices and use the health department's interactive beach map.
