PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Governor Chafee announced Tuesday that Eva-Marie Mancuso will withdraw her waiver request to the Rhode Island Ethics Commission to be interim commissioner of higher education.
Instead, Chafee is recommending that Clark Greene, chief of staff of the state Department of Education, be temporarily loaned to the office of higher education until a full-time higher education commissioner is hired.
Chafee two weeks ago recommended that Mancuso be interim commissioner, but that request ran afoul of the state's revolving-door statute, which prevents public office holders from taking state jobs within a year of their leaving public office.
