PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Not even two months out of jail, a Pawtucket ex-convict was arrested again -- this time for allegedly carrying a gun at a diner in Providence's South Side.
The Providence police had gotten a tip from the Safe Streets task force that a man at OV's restaurant, at 489 Allens Ave., had a gun.
John Minaya, 20, was outside when the officers arrived, said Providence police Maj. David Lapatin. When officers told him to put his hands up and get down on the ground, Minaya ran, he said.
Minaya was seen tossing a 9-millimeter semiautomatic over a fence at the natural gas facility, and he was caught about 150 yards away.
It was the 78th gun seized by Providence police this year.
Minaya, of 84 Auburn St., in Pawtucket, had gotten out of the Adult Correctional Institutions on June 1 after serving time for first-degree robbery, felony assault and conspiracy. As a convicted felon, Minaya is prohibited from carrying a firearm.
Minaya was arraigned at District Court Monday on charges of carrying a gun without a license and carrying a gun after being convicted. He is being held at the ACI on surety bail.
