PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Governor Chafee's office announced Friday that Nancy Scarduzio, a former marine biologist with the Department of Environmental Management, has been hired to serve as the small business ombudsman for the Office of Regulatory Reform.

Scarduzio will play a lead role in helping to develop "more clear, predictable and reliable regulatory and permitting processes" that will "help businesses succeed," Chafee's office said.

In the process, she will "work with small businesses looking to navigate" the state's "regulatory process" and "simplify and expedite regulatory processes and reduce permit and license approval times," the governor's office said.

Scarduzio, who has a bachelor's degree in marine biology from the University of Rhode Island and oversaw marine fisheries regulations while working at the DEM, will be paid $60,900.
