PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The leader of one of the state's pregnancy counseling centers says that Governor Chafee's veto of a state "Choose Life" license plate doesn't mean pro-life advocates can't get their message out.
David O'Connell, executive director of the Mother of Life Center at 400 Atwells Ave., whose activities counseling young pregnant women considering an abortion, said the center is getting ready to sell "Choose Life" license plate frames that motorists can attach to their vehicles.
The frames can be ordered for $10 each by calling (401) 421-0821 and will be sent out as soon as they arrive, with proceeds going toward helping the centers with their counseling work, O'Connell said.
Governor Chafee said he vetoed the Choose Life plates in July because he believed that the state generating revenue for antiabortion centers whose aim is to proclaim "the love and truth of Jesus Christ" would be a violation of the separation of church and state.
