PAWTUCKET (AP) -- Pawtucket's new less-frequent recycling schedule under a private sanitation vendor is set to begin.

City officials say the new recycling program with pick-up every other week rather than weekly is scheduled to begin on Monday. The city has contracted with MTG Disposal of Seekonk, Mass., to provide the service.

Residents are reminded to use new blue carts for their recyclables only, not for trash. Under the state's new single-stream recycling policy, glass, plastic and cardboard no longer have to be separate containers.

The new recycling carts will be picked up and emptied by a truck with an automated arm.

The city says its yard and leaf waste programs, which operate seasonally, will continue with weekly collections.
