WOONSOCKET, .R. I. - - Members of the Woonsocket Police Department will visit the elementary schools and the Woonsocket Head Start Child Development Association once a month to read to students and answer questions about what it is like to be a police officer.
The effort is a joint venture between the the Woonsocket Education Department, Woonsocket Head Start Child Development Association and the Woonsocket Police Department to build positive relationships and to emphasize the importance of reading, a skill that is critical not only to teachers and students but police officers as well, according to a news release from the Police Department.
