PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A Cranston man has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for his participation in an international conspiracy to import and distribute prescription drugs and anabolic steroids.

U.S. District Court Judge John J. McConnell, Jr., also ordered Patrick Cunningham, 44, to serve three years of supervised release. Cunningham pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute steroids and distribution of a misbranded drug, U.S. Attorney Peter F. Neronha said in a news release on Wednesday.

Edmond Paolucci, 54, of Coventry, a co-defendant, pleaded guilty in November to conspiracy to distribute steroids, possession with the intent to distribute steroids, distribution of a misbranded drug, and money laundering. He was sentenced on April 9 by Judge McConnell, Jr. to 33 months in prison and three years of supervised release.
