WARWICK, R.I. -- "Take me home."
That was the plea in the eyes of hundreds of dogs Sunday at a huge adoption fair organized by "Always Adopt."
The event, which was hosted by Lexus of Warwick and Infinti of Warwick at the Inskip Warwick AutoMall on Route 2, drew hundreds of people looking for a new family member.
Louise Anderson-Nicolosi, founder and president of Always Adopt, said that there were 250 dogs available at the event and her goal was to get most of them adopted.
Many of the dogs had been saved from high-kill shelters in southern states and brought to Rhode Island by area rescue groups, Anderson-Nicolosi said.
The event was slated to run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., but barely an hour after opening, a lot of happy dogs were leaving with equally-happy humans holding their leashes.
"These dogs have been quarantined, been spayed and neutered, and had their shots," Anderson-Nicolosi said. "They are ready to go home."
Another "Super Dog Adoption Day" that her organization held in North Kingstown in May resulted in more than 100 dogs finding homes.
