CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. -- James A. Diossa, the city's first Latino mayor, announced on Friday that he will seek re-election this fall for a new four-year term as the city's top elected official.
Diossa, 28, the youngest mayor in state history, easily won a special election last December to replace long-term Mayor Charles D. Moreau, who resigned at the same time he was charged with a federal corruption charge.
Diossa is finishing up the last year of Moreau's four-year term. There will be a mayoral primary in October and a non-partisan election in November. He served three years on the City Council before he decided to run for mayor.
On Saturday, at 1 p.m., Diossa will kick off his re-election campaign at the Knights of Columbus Hall, at 20 Claremont St., in Central Falls. The hall is a well-known polling place in the city.
