PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- One drug raid less than two weeks ago led to another at the same house in Mount Pleasant on Monday.

Providence narcotics officers arrested Jamie Ortiz, 26, on Monday and seized a total of 4½ pounds of marijuana from his apartment at 979 Atwells Ave., in Mount Pleasant, and his grandmother's residence at 49 Marietta St. in the Charles neighborhood, according to police reports.

Ortiz was charged with dealing marijuana and held for arraignment at District Court, Providence.

Detectives Leonel Pichs and David Schiavulli Jr. had been investigating Ortiz for selling various amounts of marijuana from 979 Atwells Ave. when they learned that he had moved pounds of the drug to Marietta Street.

Ortiz was inspired to make the move to Marietta Street after the same detectives raided 979 Atwells Ave. on Aug. 9 and arrested the first-floor resident and charged him with dealing heroin, according to the police.

Rafael Santiago, 54, was charged, after the detectives reported finding 127 bags of heroin and packaging material in the basement. A second man, Mark Williams, 29, of 73 Unit St., was charged with dealing marijuana after the police also found bags of marijuana and bags of cash totaling $12,022 in a bedroom that had paperwork with Williams' name on it, according to the police.

Santiago, who has drug-dealing charges going back more than 25 years, is being held without bail. Williams was released on bail.
