CRANSTON, R.I. -- A spectacular fire in a 28-foot RV forced state police to shut down all the northbound lanes of Route 295 for a half hour Tuesday while firefighters battled the blaze.
State Police Lt. Mark Farnum said two men, both from Woonsocket, were driving north when the RV they were riding in stalled. The men pulled the RV to the side of the road near the Route 37 exit ramp. The driver said that he was working on the motor when it became engulfed in flames around 7:05 p.m.
Neither man was injured, but the fire caused a huge backup on the highway even after the police opened some of the lanes at 7:45 p.m.
