PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The airwaves of Rhode Island's Latino Public Radio station will be buzzing Saturday with the voices of potential 2014 political candidates.
Governor Chafee and at least two of his potential 2014 challengers -- Providence Mayor Angel Taveras and Cranston Mayor Allan Fung -- are among the state and local politicians expected to take part in the three-hour program, hosted by Dr. Pablo Rodrigues, according to Latino Public Radio administrator Lorraine Ruiz Almonte.
Almonte said the mayors of Pawtucket, Cumberland and Central Falls have also confirmed they will take part in 10-to-15-minute interviews during this once-a-year political feature on the station's Saturday morning "Let's Talk'' show, hosted by Rodriguez.
Almonte said General Treasurer Gina Raimondo was also invited, but sent word she has previous plans.
The announcement by WRNI 1290 AM says: Latino Public Radio is having its (annual) political "Barbacoa" (barbecue.) ... On this day, candidates will introduce themselves, give their reason for running for political office and let the community decide if they are the right candidate.''
The program, which will be in English and Spanish, will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on WRNI-1290 AM. LPR also plans to post a podcast of the event on its website, www.lprri.org.
