PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A 15-foot great white shark that scientists have tagged with a transmitter surfaced Friday in Block Island Sound.
Genie, a female weighing 2,292 pounds and named for the shark researcher Eugenie Clark, "pinged" the receiving equipment operated by Ocearch, the research organization
that tagged the shark in Florida waters in March.
Genie has rarely surfaced long enough to be tracked. It is when the tagged sharks break the surface with their dorsal fins that a signal is received. The last time her position was triangulated was Jan. 19.
