PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A former Glocester woman who worked as a community living aide at a state-operated facility for people with developmental disabilities is charged with stealing from two male residents to buy clothes for herself.
Caren Thompson, 49, with a last known address of 30 Park Street, Blackstone, Mass., and formerly of 100 Money Hill Road, Chepachet, was charged with one count of wrongful conversion over $100 by a government employee, a felony.
She was arraigned in Superior Court, Providence, on Friday and was released on her promise to pay $10,000 if she failed to appear at her next scheduled court date. She has a pretrial conference scheduled for Oct. 16.
Thompson worked at the Rogler Farm Home, a facility managed by Zambarano Hospital, a division of the R.I. Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals. The state contends that she converted about $393 from the personal needs accounts of two male residents to buy women's clothing for herself.
The case was referred to the Attorney General's Medicaid fraud and patient abuse unit, a news release said Monday.
