FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) -- Environmental activists are planning a six-day march from a Massachusetts coal plant to Cape Cod to push for a quicker transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy.

The 60-mile "Energy Exodus March" is set to start Wednesday in Fall River, near the Brayton Point Power Station, a coal- and gas-fired plant in Somerset.

It ends Monday in Barnstable on Cape Cod, where the 130-turbine Cape Wind offshore wind farm is planned in Nantucket Sound.

Organizers say along the way, they'll call on Gov. Deval Patrick to close Massachusetts coal plants and switch to the type of clean energy Cape Wind represents.

They say at the march's end, they'll rally to support Cape Wind. The long-delayed project plans to produce electricity by 2015, but it's faced strident opposition since it was proposed in 2001.
