PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse has returned from a visit to Mongolia, South Korea and China.
The Democrat from Rhode Island was joined on the trip by Republican U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona. Whitehouse's office says he returned to the U.S. on Tuesday.
The two senators met with the presidents of Mongolia and South Korea.
In China they congratulated Marine Cpl. Angel Madera, a Providence resident who serves in the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. Madera was recently given an award for meritorious service.
Whitehouse and McCain also met with senior Chinese officials for discussions about climate change, renewable energy and concerns about cyber piracy.
